A musical Storytelling
Live with the American Diva, Julia Chalfin

Julia made her debut at the 2012 Philadelphia Fringe Festival with her autobiographical one-woman show The Birth of a Diva. Her cabaret-meets-opera style of storytelling highlights her humorous journey of musical self-discovery through Musicals, Rock ‘n’ Roll, Jazz and Classical music, in search of the appropriate genre and world fame. The program includes songs from “Les Miserables”, Walt Disney’s “The Little Mermaid”, “Think” by Aretha Franklin, “My Funny Valentine” and “Summertime” as well as beautiful classical jewels by Mozart, Händel, Bizet, Puccini Lehar and Dvorak.

Audiences can experience Julia’s enthusiasm and love of both music and storytelling up-close. She humorously shares her vocal-experimentation through the different genres of music on her determined search for fame and fortune. With her “never never never never give up” mentality, Julia gives a fascinating glimpse into what it takes to become a singer and the psychology behind the polished facade of a prima donna. Come join the hilarity and glamour of The Birth of a Diva and see how a country bumpkin from Chester Springs, PA has transformed herself into an international opera Diva!

What the audience has to say:
“Enchanting!” ~ Hartmut Zoebeley, composer and conductor
“Julia talks about her singing destiny with much humor and self-irony. A recommended, fun-filled evening!” ~ Marilyn Schmiege, opera singer, voice teacher
